Tour Overview

This experience is designed to help families enjoy the Vatican without children feeling bored or lost in the size of the museums.

Your private guide begins by giving children a custom treasure hunt map and a list of items to discover during the visit. Instead of simply walking through galleries, kids become “little explorers,” searching for mummies, stone animals, marble heroes, sea monsters, and hidden details in the artwork.

The route includes the Vatican Museums, Egyptian Collection, Octagonal Courtyard, Hall of the Animals, Gallery of Maps, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica when open. The experience concludes at St. Peter’s Square.

What You’ll Experience

Meet at Viale Vaticano 100

Your tour begins at the top of the large staircase between TMark Hotel Vaticano and Caffè Vaticano on Viale Vaticano 100.

Your private guide will meet your family and introduce the children to the treasure hunt that shapes the visit.

Treasure Hunt Start

Children receive a custom treasure hunt map and a list of objects to find.

This keeps the tour interactive while helping kids stay engaged with the art, stories, and spaces around them.

Egyptian Collection

The first major stop is the Egyptian Collection.

Children can search for stone lions, animal-headed statues, sarcophagi, and real mummies, while parents can take in artifacts connected to ancient Egypt and the wider museum collection.

Octagonal Courtyard

The route continues into the Octagonal Courtyard, home to major ancient sculptures.

Here, the guide may introduce stories connected to Laocoön and His Sons, Medusa, hidden symbols, and the enormous marble bathtub associated with Emperor Nero.

Hall of the Animals

Next, the tour enters the Hall of the Animals, a gallery created under Pope Pius VI.

This “stone zoo” features hundreds of animal sculptures, from predators to peaceful creatures, giving children a fun way to explore ancient art through familiar subjects.

Gallery of Maps

In the Gallery of Maps, families can look for sea monsters, ancient ships, optical illusions, and painted details across the large topographical maps.

This gallery helps turn geography and history into a visual game for younger travelers.

Sistine Chapel

The tour includes admission to the Sistine Chapel.

Your guide will explain what to look for before entering, since silence is required inside. Photography is not allowed in the chapel.

St. Peter’s Basilica

The tour continues to St. Peter’s Basilica when open.

Inside, families may see Michelangelo’s Pietà and Bernini’s Baldacchino. After completing the final treasure hunt task, children receive their prize.

Tour Ending

The tour concludes at St. Peter’s Square.

St. Peter’s Dome tickets are not included, but you may ask about the Dome climb before exiting if your family wants to continue independently.
