Tour Overview

This experience is designed for travelers who want access beyond the standard Colosseum visit.

With pre-reserved entry, your guide leads you into the Colosseum and down into the Underground, also known as the Hypogeum. This subterranean network of tunnels, cages, chambers, and passageways once supported the dramatic events taking place above on the Arena Floor.

The tour also includes the Arena Floor, Gladiator’s Gate, the 1st and 2nd tiers, and guided visits to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, connecting the amphitheater to the wider story of ancient Rome.

What You’ll Experience

Meet Near the Colosseum

Your tour begins near the Colosseo metro stop, just outside the Colosseum area.

After meeting your guide and group, you will head toward the Colosseum for security and entry.

Pre-Reserved Colosseum Entry

Pre-reserved access helps keep the experience organized, though all visitors still pass through security.

Once inside, your guide introduces the Colosseum as a major achievement of ancient Roman engineering and public life.

Colosseum Underground

The tour continues beneath the reconstructed Arena Floor into the Underground, or Hypogeum.

Here, you will walk through tunnels and chambers where gladiators, wild animals, and condemned prisoners once waited before being brought into the arena. Your guide explains how this active archaeological area supported the spectacles above.

Arena Floor and Gladiator’s Gate

Back above ground, you will pass through the Gladiator’s Gate onto the reconstructed Arena Floor.

From this central viewpoint, you can take in the scale of the amphitheater and imagine events once watched by up to 50,000 spectators.

Colosseum 1st and 2nd Tiers

The tour then moves to the 1st and 2nd tiers of the Colosseum.

From these levels, your guide explains seating rituals, social hierarchy, crowd control, and the clever engineering that helped shade and manage the amphitheater’s massive crowds.

Roman Forum

A short walk brings you into the Roman Forum, once the political, religious, and civic heart of ancient Rome.

Here, your guide connects the ruins to emperors, public life, temples, arches, and the daily movement of people through the ancient city.

Palatine Hill

The guided route also includes Palatine Hill, traditionally connected to the founding of Rome.

Once home to imperial residences, this area offers views over the Roman Forum and toward the Circus Maximus.

Tour Ending

The tour may end inside the Roman Forum or nearby ancient Rome area, depending on the route and entry timing.

The itinerary may also run in reverse while still covering the confirmed major areas when accessible.
